I remember beating man utd at old Trafford frankie mac scoring twice, I think we all thought it was going to be our year.

I don't think we signed anyone until Robson and that was well into the season when he joined.

Whereas we signed lots of players this summer and broke our transfer record.

I'd say this is closer to 96/97 when we had a decent season before and brought in Futre, Radiciou, Hugo Porfirio and by January we had Newell and Dowie up front and were knocked out by Stockport and Wrexham in the cups.

We didn't kick on, bought some shite players and had a few injuries. Frank MaAvennie forgetting how to score didn't help either.

We were still singing 'we're gonna win the league' in November that season, we didn't start too badly but fell away Christmas time iirc.
